A panel discussion in London on the disastrous effects of the conflict in Yemen and the success of peace efforts

Next weekend, the Yemeni British Forum for Peace and Democracy (YBFPD) will organize an electronic panel discussion on the disastrous effects of the conflict in Yemen and the progress made by international and regional efforts to bring peace to the country.
The forum said in a statement that, on Friday, June 9, it will organize, through the Zoom application, a panel discussion entitled “The conflict in Yemen.. Is there light at the end of the tunnel?”, with the participation of a group of prominent personalities and experts locally and internationally.
The communication added that the event will discuss a set of axes on the conflict, which has entered its ninth year and its devastating effects are still visible, especially with regard to the deterioration of the humanitarian situation in the country, where millions of people are on the verge of starvation, and the spread of diseases kills thousands every week. Port traffic is still limited, the siege of Taiz city continues, and salaries are not paid, in addition to the fact that more than 80% of the population faces great challenges in accessing food, drinking water and health services.
He explained that the participants will also present during the discussion their vision and expectations of the success of the current UN, international and regional efforts in putting an end to the conflict and pushing the parties towards reaching a sustainable peace agreement, and whether there is light at the end of the long-running Yemeni crisis tunnel.
Participating in the discussions are Abdou Saeed Mughalis, Secretary General of the Yemeni Shura Council, Ibtisam Muhammad, member of the Sheffield Central and Labor Council PPC, Professor Janet Watson, University of Leeds, Fernando Carvajal, regional expert on Yemen, and member of the International Committee of Experts of the UN Security Council, Richard Parker, The British Labor Party’s candidate for Mayor of the West Midlands, Mahmoud Alazani, Senior Analyst and Researcher at the Tamdoun Centre, Sheffield, Hamdan Dammaj, Co-Founder and Secretary General of the National Reconciliation Movement (NRM Yemen), and Abdeljalil Shayef, President of Friends of South Yemen and CEO of ACT Professor Taher Ali, a member of the British Parliament, Dr. Abdul Hakim Al-Qadi, President of the Yemeni-British Forum for Peace, and Dr. Mahdi Mutahar, Secretary-General of the Forum.
